GGK’s note

GGK new iconI love these covers. I am also aware that they (like the L’Atalante covers in France for these three books which I also love) might not serve as a sufficient ‘signal’ for genre readers that what lies inside is the sort of fiction they like. For other readers, a sword or supernatural creature on a cover is the wrong signal. It has been my hope (and that of my publishers) that the books can and will appeal to both sets of readers – and this creates challenges. In this way, as I mentioned in my introductory comments here, cover art is a hugely complex negotiation of many elements, some of them aesthetic, some of them advertising and marketing.– GGK
